An attractive sterling silver cup modelled as a fox's head. Cast silver with a gilt interior. The quality of the workmanship is excellent and the fox has a lovely expression on his face. Weight 261 grams, 8.3 troy ounces. Contains 95 ml. Height 8.5 cms. London 1960. Maker Richard Comyns.

Literature: The stirrup cup held a drink which was consumed while mounted on horseback, usually prior to a hunt moving off. As it is of small capacity it can be emptied quickly and there is no need to set it down during use.
