An excellent quality antique serving dish with shell and gadroon border. There is a fine original hand engraved armorial to both sides, each within a decorative cartouche and having the motto underneath 'SLENDIDENS ET CRESCENS'. External border measures - 41 x 32 cms. Recessed internal area 31 x 21 cms. Marked underneath with the Old Sheffield Plate makers mark Cowrie & Co, Long Acre, Sheffield. Circa 1820.

Literature: The Coat of Arms is for the Bristowe family of Beesthorpe Hall and belonged to Samuel Bristowe (1736~1818)
