An antique silver model of a marriage cup having a lady in a crinoline dress with attractive decorative skirt. Superb quality and good weight. Parcel gilt. Tiny size. Above the arms are birds heads holding the little cup. Weight 12 grams, 0.3 troy ounce. Height 7 cms. Diameter of base cup 2 cms. Stamped on the bottom of the skirt with German silver marks 800, crown and moon. Makers mark GDH. Circa 1900.

Literature: Wager cups. The idea is to drink the contents of the large cup (the lady's skirt) without spilling the drink inside the small cup. These highly collectible silver double drinking vessels are also known as marriage cups. The bride would drink from the small cup, the groom from the large cup.
