An early English sterling silver flat lidded tankard with the ribbed and engraved decoration popular at the end of the 17th century. To the front there is a hand engraved armorial within a large cartouche and the motto "Labor et Justitia" below. Owners initials engraved to the handle. Weight 694 grams, 22.3 troy ounces. Contains 1100. Height 16.5 cms (to top of thumbpiece). Spread 19.5 cms. Diameter 12.5 cm (top) 12.5 cm (base). London 1680. Maker John Ruslen.
