How We Started
“waxantiques” is a family business run by husband and wife team Ann and Lou Wax.
It was the classical Greek and Roman sculptures in marble and bronze that sparked our interest in antiques. Trips to Italy, the birthplace of the Renaissance soon followed, and we were hooked. We decided to start dealing in general antiques and spent many happy years selling at antiques fairs and eventually establishing ourselves at the world famous Bermondsey antiques market.
As the years progressed we found ourselves concentrating more on decorative silverware and so we looked for a more permanent London base for our customers to visit.
Twenty years ago we opened our specialist silver store “waxantiques” in Camden Passage and with passing time our interest became more focused on antique silverware and its domestic history. In 2018 we finally made our move to the London Silver Vaults.
Our website www.waxantiques.com launched in 2006 now accounts for a substantial and growing proportion of the business to the extent where Ann needs to concentrate on maintaining our online presence, while Lou is responsible for the day to day running of the shop and customer liaison.
Where We Are Now
Our move to the London Silver Vaults has allowed us to refine the type of stock we deal in and to concentrate more on earlier silver.
This central location between the City and the West End is easily reached by car and public transport. We are fortunate indeed to have a career which allows us to handle such lovely items, many of which would not be out of place in a museum environment. Perhaps best of all is that it keeps us in contact with customers from all over the world, many of whom we count as good friends as well as colleagues.
