5712. Pair of Antique Silver Sauce Tureens

An excellent pair of antique sterling silver sauce boats with matching covers and having cast silver mounts with shell and foliate decoration. Each bears an interesting presentation inscription to John Croal, colonial commissioner of compensation for British Guiana. Weight 2057 grams, 66.1 troy ounces. Length 20 cms. Width 14.5 cms. Spread across handles 22 cms. Height 14 cms. Birmingham 1836. Maker Robinson Edkins and Aston.

5633. Pair of Georgian Silver Sauce Tureens on Stands

A fine pair of antique sterling silver tureens with detachable handles and matching stands. Small size for serving sauce. Excellent plain classic design with sarcophagus shape and lovely lions mask handles. The tureens are engraved to one side with a coat of arms, the bases with a crest. Weight 1869 grams, 60.1 troy ounces. Overall height 23.5 cms. Tureen measures length 18 cms, width 11 cms. Stand measures length 16.5 cms, width 11.5 cms. All pieces with matching silver stamps. London 1803. Maker Thomas Robins.

5739. Georgian Meat Dome and Base in Old Sheffield Plate

A very decorative large antique turkey or venison dish with wooden side handles and exceptionally pretty bands of decorative detail. The carving base has a hot water jacket and integral tree and well for capturing the gravy juices. Height 40 cms. Base length 60 cms, width 47 cms, spread 65 cms. Circa 1830. Old Sheffield plate.

5586. Georgian Venison Dish and Cover in Old Sheffield Plate

A classic style antique meat cover and matching carving base with half fluted decoration and gadroon borders. The carving base has a hot water jacket and integral tree and well for capturing the gravy juices. With the original wooden carrying handles and feet. Overall height 40 cms. Base 59 cms long (68 cms including handles), width 43.5 cms.

4627. George III Silver Venison Dish

Exceptional quality and very rare. A large antique sterling silver carving dish with original matching cover and warming base both in Old Sheffield plate. Serpentine shape with crisp decorative borders. Both dish and cover have fine matching armorials engraved to both sides. Of good weight, the serving dish has a scratch weight of 120 troy ounces and measures – length 52 cms, width 40 cms. London 1819. Maker Joseph Angell.

An antique sterling silver dome with a plain circular shape and having a reed border. To one side there is an engraved armorial with the crest of a bird and motto “Fortis et Fidelis”. Weight 611 grams, 19.7 troy ounces. Height 14.5 cms. Diameter 23 cms. London 1855. Maker John Samuel Hunt.

4650. Georgian Solid Silver Dish Cover

A rare item. An antique sterling silver dome with melon shape and fantastic boars head handle. To one side there is a finely engraved armorial with 3 boars. Weight 28 troy ounces. Diameter 24 cms. London 1810. Maker Richard Sibley I, finial by Mary and Richard Sibley II. Fits well with dish #4842 and #4843.

3882. Georgian Crested Meat Dome in Old Sheffield Plate..

A beautiful antique serving cover with a wide gadroon border, lovely lions head handle and engraved coat of arms to both sides. It stills retains the original silver shields. Height 24 cms. Length 39 cms. Width 31 cms. Circa 1810.

Silver Soup Tureens           

5259. Antique Silver Tureen and Stand

A fantastic show. A good quality antique silver Portuguese soup tureen with pretty all over flower and foliate engraving and a large pomegranate finial to the lid. The matching oval stand can be used on its own as a serving platter. Weight of tureen 2630 grams, 84.5 troy ounces. Tureen spread 34 cms, length 27 cms, width 20 cms. Weight of stand 1185 grams, 38.1 troy ounces. Stand length 43 cms, width 31 cms. Portuguese silver marks to the base of both pieces – Oporto eagle mark, circa 1930. Maker Titulo.

A handsome antique sterling silver soup tureen in the Adam style. Classic boat shape with gadroon borders and an imposing crown finial. To both sides there is a fine armorial engraving and the lion crest is repeated on the lid. Weight 2680 grams, 86 troy ounces. Height 26 cms. Spread 44 cms. Width 33.5 cms. Depth 21 cms. London 1791. Maker James Young whose work is described by Grimwade as being of elegant neoclassical design and fine finish.
