The tall column supports a coil of wax, the end of which is held in place in the centre of the drip pan. The small conical snuffer is attached to the top by a long silver chain. Weight 267 grams, 8.5 troy ounces. Height 16.5 cms to top of snuffer. Spread across scissors 11.5 cms. Diameter of base 10.5 cms. Sheffield 1798. Makers mark illegible.

Exceptional quality and extremely rare. A large antique sterling silver carving dish with original matching cover and warming base both in Old Sheffield plate. Serpentine shape with crisp decorative borders. The dish and cover each have two hand engraved armorials which are fine and matching, the dish cover also has a lion crest over a crown and a second marriage motto. Of good weight, the serving dish has a scratch weight of 120 troy ounces and measures – length 52 cms, width 40 cms. London 1819.
