An excellent quality pair of antique silver model birds, we think these are woodcocks, with excellent weight and extremely fine detail. They are magnificently hand chased from beak to tail tip. The woodcock are shown with the male bird standing, surveying his surroundings with his beak slightly open. The female is bending down pecking for food. Total weight 1095 grams, 31.1 troy ounces. Male – weight 563 grams, 18.1 troy ounces, height 16.25 cms, spread 26.5 cms. Female – 532 grams, 17.1 troy ounces, height 12 cms, spread 27 cms. Both marked on the edge of the wing with English silver import marks for London 1928 (female) and 1931 (male), importer Adolph Barsach Davis. The male also has a Dutch lion silver mark on the tip of his tail (we’ve not been able to find a similar mark on the female).

An attractive crystal decanter and stopper with lock and key. The body is half thumbnail cut, half plain and has star cut base. The neck has a sterling silver collar with a padlock attached. There is a hinged retaining clip which secures the glass stopper in position – the two ends of the clip fit side by side around the little bracket on the decanter neck so that the padlock can slot through the 3 holes (see photo). Just turn the key to lock or unlock the padlock. Height 24.5 cms. Base 9 x 9 cms square. London 1931. Maker Walter Groves.

This is the largest kettle we’ve ever seen - a giant size antique hot water kettle on stand with a pull off lid and folding raffia handle. The all over decoration is quite spectacular with hand engraved and embossed shells, flowers, foliage and scrolls. There are ornamental cast shell mounts to the base of the handle and cast scroll feet to the base. There are a couple of unusual features - the fish scale ornament to the bottom section of the kettle and also the stylistic flower finial on the lid. The kettle is attached by a chain and key to the circular stand so that it can be tipped to one side in order to pour out the hot water. Height 43 cms (total height with handle upright), 38 cms (with handle folded). Old Sheffield Plate. Circa 1830.

Presented to the Watford Wheelers CC by Freeman Hardy and Willis Ltd, the shoe retailers, in 1903. To the centre there is an engraved scene of a cycling championship and around the outside there are 13 small silver plaques, 1 with the insignia of WWCC, 7 with the winners from 1903 -1909, the other 5 little shields are blank.
