A rare piece of early English silver. A large plain style antique sterling silver porringer with side handles. The matching lid has a capstan shaped finial so that the lid can be turned upside down and used on its own as a saucer. This is the form of the early Restoration porringer, with a bellied shape and the lid sitting over the upper rim. There is a small silver support either side next to the handle for the lid to sit on. To the front there is a large hand engraved armorial and griffin crest within a cartouche of plumage feathers. The lid finial is similarly decorated. Weight 375 grams, 12 troy ounces. Height 14 cms (total), 10 cms (cup), 4.5 cms (lid). Diameter 10 cms. Spread across the handles 17 cms. London 1675. Makers mark “SR” in a shield (there are 2 similar marks in Jacksons, see page 124 and 129, bottom of the page).

A fantastic pair of antique German silver table ornaments in the form of large model knights in armour, each astride a galloping horse. Gilded silver (slightly worn) with jewelled beads. The knights have faux ivory faces and helmets with hinged visors which can be opened and closed; in the right hand they each hold a jousting pole, or lance, and in the left they clasp the horse’s reins. The models are very intricate with many separate pieces assembled together. The bases have a naturalist finish. Although similar in size and stance, these models have slight differences. One horse carries a plume on the crest of its head whereas the other sports a bird figure on the head. Weight 1405 and 1411 grams, total weight 2816 grams, 90.5 troy ounces. Height 25 and 25.5 cms. Spread 20 cms excluding the lance. Base 16 x 8 cms. Marked on top of the base with German silver marks crown, moon, silver purity mark “800” (800/1000) and makers mark “JK” with a swan. Hanoi, possibly Schleissner. Circa 1900.

This superb sterling silver galleon ship, known as a Nef, is intricately modelled with 2 tall masts having multi section sails and long boom, manned crows nests, flags and rigging. Each mast has a man climbing up a tall ladder. On the upper deck the helmsman is steering the ship while the other sailors carry out their duties. In the centre there is a broad staircase which connects the two decks. Around the edge there is a decorative pierced gallery and below this, the port holes with their cannons ready for battle. The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull. The hull of the ship is realistically engraved with timber effect planks and graining; the interior is gilded, the rudder is in the form of a dolphin, the anchor is attached by a chain. The ship has 10 cannons and stands on four decorative wheels. Excellent large size and weight. Weight 3350 grams, 107 troy ounces. Height 67 cms. Spread 62 cms. The nef has multiple silver stamps including London import marks, on the bottom edge of the top section and the body of the hull, for 1913. Importer Berthold Muller.

A rare antique solid silver chalice dating to circa 1700. Over 300 years old and in very good condition. Good original gilt finish. The decorative form is typical of German drinking cups of this period, the cup could also possibly be Italian. The shaped globular bowl and foot have embossed decoration with face masks and fruit, the top has a hand chased scroll border, and the centre column is mounted with 3 cast scrollwork ornaments with figureheads. Contains 200 ml. Weight 365 grams, 11.7 troy ounces. Height 20 cms. Diameter – top 6.5 cms, foot 9 cms. Marked on the edge of the foot rim with makers mark “PS”, town mark and assay scrape. Continental. Circa 1700.
