6079. Rare Antique Irish Silver Scribes Set An extremely interesting piece of Irish history. A silver pen and ink case in the form of a ruler, engraved on one side with the scale 1 to 6 inches, and on the other with an Irish pound to guinea conversion table. Inside the case is an ink bottle and compartment for pens. Engraved crest to one end. Weight 78 grams, 2.5 troy ounces. Length 15.5 cms. Width 2 cms. Unmarked silver. Circa 1800. Between 1701 and 1826 the Irish pound was fixed at 13 Irish pounds = 12 pounds sterling making it quite a hefty calculation to convert guineas into Irish pounds. |
