5684. Antique Silver Tray

A large size antique sterling silver tray of plain design and having a gadroon border and 2 side handles. There is a military inscription to the centre to Major C.E. Duff from the 8th Hussars (see photo and career resume). Weight 3523 grams, 113.2 troy ounces.Length 56 cms. Width 43 cms. Spread across handles 69.5 cms. London 1897. Maker Thomas Bradbury & Sons.

Charles Duff entered the 8th Hussars in May 1878 and sailed for India in December. He was employed in the Second Aghan War at Dakka Fort, in command of a 20-man detachment on the Lines of Communication. Later he took part in the regimentÕs march from Junrood to Bassawal. He was second in command of the regiment during the South African War.
