5848. Victorian Silver and Mother of Pearl Inkstand

A rare collectors item. An exceptionally pretty antique sterling silver and shell inkstand with hinged ink reservoir, hinged nib pot and detachable shell pen rest. All standing on dolphin feet. All silver is fully hallmarked except the little pen rest. Height 15 cms. London 1859. Maker William Comyns.

An impressive antique sterling silver inkstand with 2 cut crystal hinged lid bottles and a central taperstick holder which lifts to reveal a well for nibs etc. A highly decorative piece with lovely pierced silver borders and engraved centre. Weight of silver 28 troy ouces. Length 31 cms. Width 22 cms.  All pieces London 1856. By Joseph Angel. 1 small repair to inside lid.

A magnificent 19th century Roman covered spice box or ink stand. A highly decorative piece with a bacchanalian figure to the lid and mythical winged creatures supporting the font. Weight 57 troy ounces. Height 30 cms. Width 20 cms. Extensively marked all over with Italian silver marks and French import marks. Circa 1880.

The pretty pierced silver gallery run around 3 sides and is complimented by similarly decorated silver bottle holders. There is an engraved crest to the centre. Weight of stand 24 troy ounces. 5770. Antique Silver and Glass Inkwell with Watch

A very smart plain styled antique silver and glass desk piece with a pocket watch inset within the lid. The top has an articulated hinge so that, when open, the watch can be positioned either at the front or back of the fitting (it can also sit in the centre). The top bezel unscrews to remove the watch. The base is made of heavy glass with faceted corners. Height 14 cms (when open), 6.5 cms (when closed). Base 9 x 9 cms. Birmingham 1902. Maker John Grinsell & Sons.

5665. Antique Silver Inkwell by Sampson Morden

A charming collectors item. A cut crystal ink bottle with silver top formed as the head of an owl with glass eyes. The modelling of this little owl is extremely lifelike and captures his expression perfectly. The chunky crystal base has typical Victorian facet cutting and is heavy enough to use as a paperweight. London 1896. Maker Sampson Morden.

5753. Antique Continental Dog Inkstand in Silver Plate

A beautiful antique silver plated inkstand in the Art Nouveau style. The shaped base with single hinged inkwell (with glass liner) is decorated as a pool with a cherub, flowers and a lobster. The raised back is surmounted by a very realistic model of a red setter standing on a grassy bank. Height 15 cms. Length 35 cms. Width 27 cms. Circa 1900. Continental. Unmarked.

A large and substantial antique inkstand in Old Sheffield Plate having 2 ink bottles and a central nib container with integral taper stick and snuffer. Fantastic quality with sharp decorative mounts and animals claw feet. Length 29 cms. Width 20 cms. Circa 1820.

5511. Giant Victorian Wood and Horn Desk Set

A rare antique desk compendium complete with all its original fittings. A very large and decorative item.

It comprises:

Solid oak base with large pull out drawer

2 horn snuff mulls with hinged lids

Pair of chunky cut crystal ink bottles with hinged lids

Centre box for pen nibs and bits and bobs – the lid has a figure of a footballer

Central pair of horns supporting a clock (going order)

Pair of cranberry glass vases (removable)

All the metal fittings are currently in nickel and brass but can be replated if preferred. Circa 1890.

5069. Antique Silver Plated Ink Stand

A fine quality antique inkstand with a centre cherub holding a taper stick. Silver plated. The 2 baskets open to reveal the original cranberry ink bottles with sterling silver mounts. The hat lifts and inside there is a little box to hold nibs. Silver hallmarked for Birmingham 1852. Maker Henry Manton.
