Sugar Castors

 

3217. Queen Anne Silver Sugar castor.

This lovely antique Britannia Standard silver sugar castor is hallmarked for London 1709 by specialist castor maker Charles Adam. It measures 16.75 cms high and weighs just under 6 troy ounces. It has a beautiful pierced top which is hallmarked with a partial makers mark (the top was hallmarked before being pierced so it is difficult to read) and has a bayonet fitting to attach it tightly to the base. The higher grade of silver was used between 1697 – 1720.
