6969. Silver Cigar and Cigarette Box in Presentation Case

An unusual lot. A large double silver box split for cigars on one side and for cigarettes on the other. Each has its own hinged lid and original wooden interior. The lids are engraved with “Cigars” and “Cigarettes” in script and with a decorative monogram. It comes complete with the original presentation box retailed by the South African jewellers Harris & Co. Total length 22 cms, width 12 cms, height 6.5 cms. Cigar box length 11.5 x 11.5 cms. 1707. Novelty “Face” Combination Match Striker.

This is a most unusual item. In sterling silver, this novelty match striker is in the form of a head with 2 eyes serrated to strike the matches on, the nose is a cigar rest, the mouth is an ashtray and the circular font at the top is to contain the matches (use your imagination to see the matches as a tuft of hair at the top!). With a registered design number Rd519008. Height 7 cms. Weight 5 troy ounces. London 1903.

6725. Antique Dutch Silver Brazier

This rare antique silver brazier was used to hold embers for lighting lamps, candles, pipes, etc. The circular silver bowl has a pierced border decorated with flowers and foliage, is raised on 3 wooden feet, and has a detachable turned wooden handle. To the centre is a copper bowl which holds the embers, it is attached to the silver bowl with a screw from underneath the base. Total weight 414 grams, 13.3 troy ounces. Length 28.5 cms. Diameter 17.5 cms. Height 11.5 cms. Stamped underneath with Dutch silver marks for Amsterdam. Circa 1790.

2116. Victorian Novelty “Ships Lantern” Cigar Lighter.
