5722. Pair of George II Paktong Candlesticks A rare pair of antique cast paktong candlesticks in the typical George II style with shaped base and knopped stem. Made in 2 pieces the stem screws onto the base. Heavy weight 1137 grams, 36.5 troy ounces. Height 20.5 cms. Base 10.5 x 10.5 cms. English circa 1740. Paktong is a rare Chinese alloy imported in small quantities during the eighteenth century and used to make, primarily, candlesticks but also fire grates and a few other domestic wares. Each has a crest and motto engraved to the base. Good weight 610 grams, 19.6 troy ounces. Height 15.5 cms. Diameter of base 10.2 cms.Typically for items up to 1730 they have two hallmarks, the harp crowned and the date letter for Dublin 1719 (marked in the well of the base).
