An attractive antique sterling silver tray with side handles. Oval shaped with ribbed border and bead edge. The centre is prettily engraved with swags and classical motifs and to the middle there is an engraved crest and motto within a large decorative cartouche. Weight 2946 grams, 94.7 troy ounces. Spread 65.5 cms. Length 56 cms. Width 41 cms. Sheffield 1892. Maker Fenton Brothers.

Biography - The Fenton Brothers firm was established in 1875 at South Moor Works, East Street, Sheffield by John Frederick Fenton and Frank Fenton. The firm became a limited liability company in 1896 as Fenton Brothers Ltd. Manufacturer of both sterling silver and silver plated wares. Folding biscuit boxes were a popular item.

Condition - This pretty tray is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The engraving is still crisp. It has a full set of clear English silver hallmarks.
