8345. Antique Charles II Silver Porringer - Price £3,550

Back

A rare early English silver porringer having 2 side handles and belly shape. Lovely original hand beaten finish. Good gauge silver. Excellent colour. Weight 313 grams, 10 troy ounces. Height 10 cms. Diameter 11 cms. London 1670. Maker “A.L” with stars (see Jacksons page 128) - see photo. *It’s very rare for a mark of this period to have a name associated with it.

Signed - *There are no precise records of silver makers marks prior to 1681 as all records were destroyed in the fire at Goldsmiths Hall in that year when the Assay Office and apartments of the Assayer and Clerk in the south west wing of the building were burned down.

Condition - This charming silver cup is in very good condition with no apparent damage or restoration. Excellent colour and hand beaten finish. Good clear silver marks with lack of definition to some edges. The maker “A.L” is listed in Jacksons (see photo).
Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
